La Cañada Thursday Club Foundation

The La Cañada Thursday Club Foundation was incorporated in 2012 and was formed to support the charitable aspects and mission of the Club. The Foundation received approval of its 501(c)(3) tax status in October, 2013. Donations made to the Foundation are tax-deductible under Section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code.

The Foundation awards scholarships to high school seniors who reside or attend school in La Cañada Flintridge. The General Foundation scholarship recipients are selected based on academic achievement, community service, and potential for success. The Greenawalt Scholarship recipients are selected based on academic achievement, triumph over an obstacle, hardship or extenuating circumstance, and potential for success. The Foundation awarded 12 General Scholarships and 1 Greenawalt Scholarship in  2018, each in the amount of $1,000.

The Foundation also makes philanthropic donations to organizations in the La Cañada, Glendale, Pasadena, and surrounding areas. Recent projects include gift collections for participants in Hillsides’ “Youth Moving On” program, collections of work apparel for residents of Elizabeth House, and making Valentine’s Day cards for a local Senior Center.

Thursday Club members are encouraged to make tax-deductible donations to support the Foundation programs. Checks should be made payable to The La Cañada Thursday Club Foundation.  Donations for the Denise Greenawalt Scholarship Fund should also be made to the Foundation, with a notation that it be directed to the Greenawalt Scholarship Fund.
